Best swimming pools in the UK: 10 to try this weekend
1. Tinside Lido, Plymouth
Featuring ocean views and a cafe and spacious terrace, Tinside Lido is an ideal spot for swimming due to its spacious decking area, large pool, and breathtaking views.

2. Ilkali Pool and Lido, Ilkali
Enjoy views of Ilkley Moor as you take a refreshing dip in the Lido. Note here, though, that if you’re a good-weather swimmer, it’s not hot—for those who love cold water treatments. (Read our guide, Is Cold Water Bad for You?, here).

3. Thames Lido, Reading
Certainly not your standard lido, it is set by the River Thames in King’s Meadow Park and is the result of an intensive three-year restoration project. The original pool was built in 1902 with a budget of less than £5,000. This includes a restaurant, tapas bar, and spa – we’re talking hot-stone massages, saunas and hot tubs – but remember that it is recommended to book massages well in advance.

4. Lido Ponti, Pontypridd
With three swimming areas (obviously, one of which is a splash pool), Lido Ponti has come a long way since it was first built in 1927. It is spacious and a great one for families.

5. Gaurock Pool, Gaurock
A dip in this 33 meter salt water lido offers spectacular views of the sacred lake. Gourock Pool, located on the banks of the River Clyde, is Scotland’s oldest heated swimming pool and includes a gorgeous waterfront gym that will make you want to follow your lap with a session at the gym.

6. Brockwell Lido
Head to Herne Hill and you’ll find the Brockwell Lido, an outdoor swimming pool first opened in July 1937. Since then, it has closed once, but after a petition from local preachers, reopened. On a sunny day in London, the lido will be packed – our tip is to go downstairs early.

7. London Fields Lido
In east London, you’ll find the London Fields Lido, a Hackney-based outdoor swimming pool known for its rainbow-colored changing room doors. It is 50 meters long, warms up to 25 °C, and is normally open year-round, no matter what the season. Find it in the north-west corner of London Fields Park.

8. Jubilee Pool
Fun Fact: Jubilee Pool is the UK’s largest and, according to its website, the most famous, Art Deco seawater lido. Located in Penzance, Cornwall, it’s a real beauty – like something out of a Wes Anderson movie. A bucket list open-air swimming pool, of course.

9. Cowley Manor, Cotswolds
just it What you call a hotel with an amazing outdoor pool. Surrounded by 55 acres of manicured gardens, the outdoor pool is large enough for serious swimmers, and ideal if you want to switch between perfecting your breaststroke and enjoying a treatment at the Sea-Side Spa.

10. Mondrian, London
The newly-opened Mondrian marks the brand’s return to London and, fun fact: The Curtain Members Club will continue to work alongside the re-branded hotel, offering members a world-class offering and an amazing rooftop lido. Not one to remember.
