  • A hotel stay with a cult-following gym class thrown in for good measure? As a health editor, I had to try.

You all must have heard of Barry’s Bootcamp – the self-proclaimed toughest workout in the world and a firm celeb favorite.

While Joe Wicks has really put high-intensity interval training on the map in the UK in recent years, Barry claims it was the first studio to ever offer HIIT-focused classes when he moved to West Hollywood back in 1998. had opened.

So when I heard that the King’s Cross-based studio had teamed up with another celeb favorite — boutique hotel The Standard to offer a package where you get a class included in your night’s stay, I was curious to try.

I Tried the New Barry’s x The Standard Burn Baby Burn Package: Here’s What I Thought

Barry’s Bootcamp: What a Square Looks Like

First things first – a little background for you Barry. You’ve probably heard of the class and seen celebrities like Adriana Lima, David and Victoria Beckham, Jake Gyllenhaal and Harry Styles try it (fun fact: a friend of mine was once next to David Beckham on a treadmill in London). But do you know what it really means?

They have 70 studios around the world and nine in the UK, and if you go to their website, you’ll see that their tagline proudly says they do something a little different to other workout studios.

how so? Well, each class promises to help you burn up to 1,000 calories during a one-hour class (the calorie count isn’t exactly one workout, but the high calorie burn can be useful if you’re looking to lose fat or lean muscle). Improvement).

How? Well, by employing some of the best PTs, plus an hour-long combination of treadmill sprints and strength training. When you’re on the go, they walk you through a warm-up and then a series of intervals, and while you’re on the floor, depending on the class, you’ll be doing weight training focusing on your upper body. , lower body, or both.

Naturally, there’s a great soundtrack to boot — from Beyoncé to Kanye in our class — and the mood lighting (so they call it “The Red Room”) was everything.

Don’t like running or, alternatively, fancy weight training? You can double trade or double floor – which means you only do an hour of one subject instead.

Standard: What the Accommodation Looks Like

At the Hotel – another firm celeb favorite from the likes of Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, Emma Stone, and Paloma Faith.

Fun fact for you: It is located in what was once the Camden Town Hall Annex, and is quite a building. Rumor (and their welcome sheet) told me that when they bid on the property, their offer was the only one that intended to keep the original building (as opposed to tearing it down).

It’s brutalist in design and the interiors are crazy but fun—bright primary and pastel-colored touches adorn our train carriage-inspired rooms, and Trip CBD stocks the refreshment minibars of the likes of Joe & Safes and Torres. Yes, some rooms have outdoor bathtubs overlooking St. Pancras Station, but we sadly didn’t have one.

While you’re there don’t miss the chance to get into their 10th-floor restaurant, Desimo, in the Insta-famous red “pill” shaped elevator. It’s a higher price point than your standard meal, but it’s not a standard meal—far from it. Michelin-starred chef Peter Sánchez-Iglesias showcases stunning Mexican tapas, mouthwatering good red pepper tapenade and grilled sourdough literally smothered in olive oil (trust me on this one).

The offer is simple – book their “Stowaway” overnight stay package and you’ll be booking not only a hotel room for the night, but Barry’s class as well.

    my thoughts?

I thought The Standard Hotel was great and I love the concept of being able to book a hotel stay with a workout class.

Often when you’re away, you want to workout, but lack the motivation when you’re at the gym. Not now – if you’ve booked a class, exercise motivation will be provided for you. Plus, it’s a great opportunity for those who haven’t tried Barrie before, let it go in a relaxed setting.

What do you think – would you rather book a hotel stay that includes a workout class?
