“I have so much to say and really no one else.”
You must remember Kim K’s Met Gala look this year. He controversially decided to wear Marilyn Monroe’s “Happy Birthday” costume from 1962, which is still preserved in the art museum.
Trigger Alert: Discusses the topics of eating disorders and weight loss
She spoke candidly about losing weight to fit into the outfit, for which many fans and celebrities reprimanded her.
One of those celebrities was Riverdale star Lili Reinhart, who posted a pretty-to-the-point Instagram post explaining that Kim’s lewd comments about losing weight for an occasion were due to her body image issues or eating. Why can be a trigger for people suffering from PTSD.
While she did not refer to Kim by name, at the time she said: “Very wrong. So messed up at level 100. To openly admit to starving myself for the sake of the Met Gala. When you know very well that millions of young men and women are looking at you and listening to you every word.”
Reinhart continued, “Ignorance is otherworldly and abhorrent. Please stop supporting these stupid, harmful celebrities whose entire image revolves around their bodies. I’m not usually an angry person, but I’m a god. Swear, the toxicity of this industry sometimes really gets to me and I have to do my little Instagram-story rants to vent my anger.”
Now, she’s spoken out for the first time about why she feels so obsessed about the topic.
talking to IndieWireShe added: “I definitely get abused on social media, I’m so guilty of that.”
“I just don’t like sitting idle, I don’t like keeping my mouth shut. I know people on Twitter hate me. There are articles and everyone is like, “God, does this girl ever shut up and stop complaining?” No, really, I don’t, because I have so much to say and really no one else.”
This is a topic close to home as she herself has struggled with disordered eating in the past. She explains: “I’ve definitely gotten to the point where I thought, I need help, that I’m not mentally well, I wish I could go somewhere.”
“Unfortunately, there are a lot of resourceful $90,000 retreats in Malibu, and I can just sit in a lounge chair and do therapy for five days and go ‘Cool! I’m doing better!’ I wish there were better resources for mental health, and in the sense that people need to be taken more seriously when they are struggling.”
Kudos to the star for being so open about her own struggles and paving the way for a new generation of — hopefully, more positive — body image.
