When an invitation to test out the brand new fitness suite at Hotel Sea Containers in London arrived in my inbox this month, I was intrigued.
My first thought was how exciting it was to see a major hotel in the heart of the city putting health and wellbeing at the forefront of its offering. The capital is brimming with amazing studios, gym classes and more and yet, many hotels seem stuck in the 1950s (read: dingy rooms with no windows and minimal equipment) when it comes to their workout offerings .
Not Sea Containers, however, which has long had a fully functioning gym available to guests and this month launched a fully kitted out suite for fitness fans – aptly named the “Ship Shape Suite”.
The website describes it as a “one-of-a-kind space created for those looking for a personal fitness and recovery experience,” and the room boasts kit including Peloton, VAHA mirrors, Theragun and more.
In the name of health journalism – I went down this week to check it out. Here are my honest thoughts.
Sea Containers review: “A spacious suite equipped with all the fitted kit you need – we’ll be back”
First things first: A little about the hotel Containers is located on London’s Southbank and their rooftop bar, 12th Notch, has amazing views of the city.
The new fitness suite is located on the fourth floor and opened this month to provide busy CEOs or tourists with an opportunity to get in a good workout in the comfort of their hotel room (no need to head downstairs to the gym).
The suite is spacious, sitting on a generous 635 square feet, and comes complete with a comfortable double bed, steam and sauna rooms, and ample storage.
Plus, the mini-bar was stocked with kombucha, dried mango, and The Gut Stuff Bar (although, as a self-proclaimed health snack devotee, I’d love to see some more free and nutrient-dense snacks on offer ).

The Water-thermoregulated and digital mattress tested by sleep pros Eight Sleep was a definite highlight — you can control the temperature of the mattress at the touch of a button and get detailed insight into your sleep patterns, including sleep stage, respiration rate, comfort can do. Heart rate and higher in the morning after.
Working out was a dream – the NoHrD weights were sleek and easy to use (so much so, I’m considering investing in some for my home… I can dream). There are also haptic balls for fascia stimulation and the all-important warm up exercises, as well as the Technogym Band for resistance training. Plus, the Dyson air purifier and fan mean you don’t sweat as much during your workout.
The interactive VAHA X mirror is a great option for those of you who don’t have a set workout plan – just touch the screen and you’re met with a qualified instructor who will walk you step by step through a workout of your choice will take steps.
Calm down, the Theragun Pro was handy to have on hand – I have one at home and they’re one of the easiest ways to give your muscles some love after a tough session.
We struggled to log into Peloton, though – I can’t get it to work if it requires our membership, which we sadly don’t have.
I would also have preferred a sunrise alarm clock or more natural light in the room – studies have shown that maintaining your body’s natural circadian rhythm is important for general well-being, and rooms tend to be skewed on the dark side, especially in the mornings. Is.
Well worth noting is the hotel’s food offering – we had a delicious dinner overlooking the Thames and seabass tacos, which were fresh, light and more than delicious. The breakfast served in the room the next morning was also very good – a light and fluffy egg white omelet with avocado, rocket and tomato.
Looking forward to seeing how the hotel continues to develop the space. We will be back..
