Yet shortly after, she shared that producers were trying to get Pugh to turn things around about her appearance, leading her to question whether she wanted to work in the industry.
talking to WireShe shared: “All the things they were trying to change about me—whether it was my weight, my looks, the shape of my face, the shape of my eyebrows—wasn’t what I wanted to do, or the industry I was in. I wanted to work.”
It goes without saying that you don’t need to change your outlook for the job role. It’s 2022, and while movement can be great for both your mental and physical health, unrealistic body standards have long been abandoned in favor of living a more balanced life.
However, that was not the case for Pugh in 2014. This made her feel like her career might be over, as the experience was very different from her earlier acting work. “I thought the movie business would be like FallBut really, this was what the top of the game looked like, and I thought I had made a huge mistake.”
Luckily, studio city was never picked up—that is, the network opted not to continue airing the show, meaning Pugh returned to England to take on other acting jobs.
She was cast a few months later lady macbethWhich she shared reminded her why she wanted to be in the industry in the first place.
“It made me fall in love with cinema—the kind of cinema that was a place where you could have your opinion, out loud, and I stuck to that,” she explained.
“I think it’s very easy for people in this industry to push you left and right. I was lucky to find out what kind of artist I wanted to be when I was nineteen.”
She is now famous as one of the best actresses in the world – the one who shows you that you should never change who you are, especially in regards to your physical appearance, just for the sake of work.
